Do you love running? Me too! I love going to running events, especially when they are situated in some of the most beautiful parts of the world. There is something magical about being part of an event where hundreds of people are trying to reach the same goal – the finish line. But you don’t need to run a marathon to experience this – although, if that is your goal then go for it! There are hundreds of fun runs or bucket list runs around the world that you can be a part of.
For me, I started running in Christchurch and did my first half marathon around the earthquake-ravaged city, which was incredibly humbling. I hadn’t trained a lot, but that wasn’t important to me. Again, it was about being part of a team all trying to achieve the same goal. A few years later I ran the London Marathon and it was the hardest but the best thing I have ever done. I didn’t complete it in a good time but I did complete it and that was the important thing. But the event, to me, wasn’t about trying to get through it as quickly as possible. It was about experiencing the atmosphere of the day. It was the crowds who got me through it and that is something that everyone should experience. So, I have compiled a list of the top five running events in Asia.
Top 5 running events in Asia

This is one of the most unforgettable running events because it allows you to experience the true awe of the Cambodia temples in Siem Reap. The Angkor Wat Half Marathon, or 10km fun run, starts early in the morning at Angkor Wat. The run, which is relatively flat, begins at sunrise so you get to experience the true beauty of the largest religious monument in the world at its best.

Take in the sites of one of the wonders of the world by taking part in the Great Wall Marathon. This exciting and unique race features three distances – a full marathon (42.2km), a half marathon (21.1km) and a fun non-competitive run (8.5km).
Although this course is meant to be challenging, the breathtaking views and surroundings are a great reward for all participants. The route leads runners through the lower valley and into the villages, where they will be greeted by a group of supportive onlookers.
This is one of the most established city races in Asia. Join more than 50,000 runners for a tour through some of Bangkok’s most iconic sites, including the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, the National Museum, the Grand Palace, while running alongside the Chao Phraya River.
There are distances for all running abilities, depending whether you want to run a full marathon or just go for the micro-marathon distance (5km). The choice is yours! This is one of the greatest running events in Asia, so give it ago this November.
